Where are my pods?

My BC14 has been up for over a year. The Chaeto doubles in volume every week in my fuge. My Torch has gone from two heads to six. I think things are going well, but I've never seen a single pod in my tank or in my Chaeto. Am I missing something or is my Sixline just eating (or ate) whatever comes in? Thanks.

Hes probably eating the pods that are coming into the tank. If they dont reproduce quick enough you wont see any as in your case.

That makes sense. Thinking about it, I don't bring much new into the tank. There may not have been many pods in my initial clump of Chaeto and all I've done is prune it since. I've added some corals, but not much in the way of rock or anything pods could have hitchhiked in on.

So what can I do to get a population growing? Will the Sixline eat them as fast as they reproduce? Even if they multiply in the Chaeto, would they get through the sponge on the inlet to chamber 3 much less survive the trip through the MJ900?

You can purchase pods and throw them into the sump. Like ser_renely said, some pods are small, i see them in my tank but you need to look super close. If you have some LR in your DT then you should be able to keep your pod population going. Try looking into the tank at night. You'll see a lot more then day time.

I would think that if you used live rock you must have some pods. They lay eggs in the rock that will hatch.

Do you have a sump?

Seems likely that the population is being thinned out a lot by your six line. A refrigum would be beneficial.

I have studied the tank closely and at night, but never with a magnifiying glass. And while I don't have a sump (it's a 14 gallon BioCube), I do have a refugium with a healthy population of Chaeto. I've always resisted the live rock rubble in the fuge thinking it would mostly become a refuge for detritus that would become a nitrate factory, but maybe that would help?
