have not seen too many fish offered that are endemic to the red sea lately. is there some sort of problems collecting from that area at this time or is it just my imagination?

Ralphie16,

Thank you for contacting us with your questions on our live stock. We checked with our shipping facility and they are not expecting any shipments in from Red Sea until next month. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay in shipments may cause you.

If we can be of any additional assistance, please feel free to contact our Technical Support Department at 1-800-334-3699 or via email at TechSupport@drsfostersmith.com and we will be happy to answer any question(s) you may have.

Do you ever receive bicinctus clowns in these shipments, or do you only carry tank bred ones?

ralphie16, SDguy,

The main reason why fish from the Red Sea have been hit and miss in the trade lately can be attributed to the closure of export of marine fish out of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia was the Mecca for the majority of diversity in species such as dottybacks, bicinctus clowns, tangs, and angels coming into the US.

Yemen is still shipping to the states but only the larger fish such as Sohals, Semilavartus, and Purple Tangs.

Exports of marine fish out of Egypt are still trickling into the US as well, but these fish are very expensive and the quality and consistency is not up to the standards that we would like.

I hope this better explains the issues as of late with fish that are endemic to the Red Sea, and we are working diligently to correct this problem.

Cheers!

ralphie16,

I really don't know the details as to why the Saudi government had made this decision. This happens from time to time in the industry, which leaves us all scrambling to find alternative sources for fish.
