Where can I buy a Flow Meter

Ebay, just do not buy the really high quality ones as they are made with brass, stainless steel and aluminum parts, even though you can probably buy them cheaper than the poorly made aquarium all plastic variety. Buying the poor quality ones made for aquarium use will cost you more because most often they are new and sold on a buy now basis, not like the surplus good ones from Cole Palmer etc. The aquarium ones are made of all glass, but they are hard to find in sizes above around 500 gallons per hour such as the ones made with metals.

But then there are the closed pipe flow meters that are Doppler meters (ultra sonic) which read through sensors that attach to the outside of the pipe, that would cost about $300 to $1500 on ebay. Or the nicest flow meter which is made for measuring water flow as velocities as in water currents or the warer force caused buy the water leaving a water nozzle. Now that is the way to measure circulation in a reef tank. I am sure Dana Riddle or the like would love to have one of their own.

A Marsh McBirney Flow-mate 2000 typically rents for $65 a day or $350 a week through Environmental Engineering equipment suppliers. To buy one you would look for a Marsh McBirney Flowmate meter that would sell on ebay for $800 to $1500 used. About $4000 to $5000 for a new one at Hanna or Cole Palmer or the like.

It is a model #RMB-52-SSV and is quite large so I think it is a 10" total legth. The actual measuring area looks about 5" in length. Here is a pic.
