Where can I find a G. smithii?

Hi all,
I have been looking for a Gonodactylus smithii for my nano tank. It is a small glass tank so I have been looking for a smaller species, and the G. smithii I read is the best for this. I just can't find one...does anyone know where to look? I have contacted stompatopod.com but they haven't gotten any in for weeks...
Thanks for your help!
Lisa

Stomatopod.com has recieved at least one G. smithii according to their last update (the 29th) so check that out.

N. wennerae can suit your purposes fairly well. They as a whole are pretty active and are fun to watch. You'd likely be very happy with an N. wennerae if you can't find a G. smithii.

Thanks for the advice Pea-Brain. I only see a G. viridis for sale at Stomatopod.com, where did you see that they may have a G. smithii?

Yankeereefer- I am located in Rockville, Maryland.

I emailed Stomatopod.com about the G. smithii it says they received, I hadn't seen that "shipment news" board...hopefully they will have one, if not I may go with the N. wennerae as you said they would be good also.

I contacted the person selling the G. ternatensis in California but they never got back to me...I assumed it was already sold.

Thanks for the help, hopefully I will have a mantis soon :D

Bluezooaquatics.com gets them on occassion. That's where I got mine. My smithii is so shy I almost never see it. I know individual personality varies greatly in this species, so if you are ordering sight-unseen, you might re-consider.

I never actually saw the smithii posted, it always said "no products available in this catagory", so I just assumed someone got to it before me...I tried only about 5-10 mintues after 10pm when they said it was going to be posted.

I'm thinking of getting a N. wennerae instead...

Gholland- where did you get your O. latirostris?

Elvira (O. latirostris) came from stomatopod.com. Of the three mantis I have (G. smithii, H. glyptocercus, O. latirostris) she is far and away my favorite. She's incredibly active and interactive... always watching me or hunting. And she doesn't require as much space as a peacock. Unfortunately, O. latirostris seem to be at least as difficult to find as G. smithii. O. havanensis are a related species that are similar and seem to be available on occasion though.

I've kept a journal about Elvira here:

Elvira sounds great, I need one like her!

I never thought this would be so difficult...I guess I need to just be patient :(

Definitely! :) I don't think you'll regret it.

We apologize for not being able to provide everyone a smithii of thier choice. Just hang in there. We are considering a trip to the Indonesia area to help educate collectors on what is sought after and why. The primary problem is lack of identification on their end to start, then it spreads to not knowing where to find the desired species other than peacocks.

The smithii lasted 45 seconds, congradulations Karl for the speedy fingers!

Gholland has been a tremendous customer and friend. He has helped educate about the bright nature of the latirostris.

Thanks.

Billy
