Hi my cousin clowns , started laying egg yesterday , he wanted to see if there somewhere he can find rotifer locally, Syracuse , Rochester ect . Also if there some one who breed /or had breed clown before info is very welcome . Thank

Hi, I have been raising clownfish for a year and a half now. I have a pair of Onyx Perculas that lay eggs almost every two weeks and from them I have 3 batches of fry. I had many losses but now I feel more successful as I have a batch that is five months, a batch that is 24 days old, and my newest batch is 2 days old. I have a culture of rotifers as well. The breeding forum on here is a great place for information on how to raise them and I might be able to answer questions you may have on raising them.

Congrats. Breeding clowns can be extremely challenging. It amazes me that a few hobbyists can get lucky on occasion. I'd sell my copy of Wilkerson's clownfishes if he's interested. It's basically a college textbook on the science of breeding clowns. It breaks down every step in detail. IMO you really need good reference material to be successful. The forum is great for fine tuning. Good luck!

I have been using Wilkerson's book for the last year. Her information is tried and true. However with advances in food such as TDO and Rotifer feed like RGComplete and others the process is getting a bit easier.

I agree. Wilkerson's book is/was awesome. Most of the info is still good, but there has been some advances in the last 15 years. Roti-Gro, Otohime, the use of black round tubs, etc.

Honestly, I'm surprised that someone like Wittenrich hasn't written a book dedicated to breeding clownfish.

Yes he was up all night , he started with 150-200 baby's , they where doing great into today the air pump stop working, causing like 100 baby's to die. Well that's what he thinks happen.

Holy cow, that is a good catch for the first time! Congrats. It is all part of the learning process. About the air pump, that sucks. With no air going in the tank via the air stone the carbon dioxide builds up and drives the PH in the tank way down. Both things not good. I experienced a power outage today for about 2 hours. Luckily it came back on, I was really worried about 3 tanks of babies.
Hope he got a new pump, and a few to survive.

I doubt a book like Wilkerson's would be profitable today. So much info went into it. Hobby breeders aren't forced to buy at textbook prices. The forums are great for emerging techniques. Clownfishes was a labor of love IMO. Matt is so busy, i can't see him devoting that much time.
