Sometimes they lay them in a sheltered area, sometimes in a very exposed area. I have pairs laying inside flowerpots (some hide them behind the pots) and some laying on the tank glass in open view...I have a pair that several times laid eggs on the front glass
ok. Because my clowns have alot of spots around the nem that I just cant see. and they have been displaying alot of breeding signs. (like her going belly up under a ledge over and over)
Anyone got a picture of a maroon clown with the ostivoir (sp) showing? is it maroon?
Any one ever have theyre clowns 'practice' before they ever actually laid eggs?
Hi Maggie, Sorry, I don't have any ovipositor pics...I'm just not a good enough photographer -- Hopefully someone else can help out there. The ovipositor can sometimes be a bit more difficult to see on maroon clowns IMO. Many clown pairs will practice before spawning, although it's variable. I've had pairs spawn "out of the blue," and pairs that practiced for many months without laying eggs (ehem, my A. bicinctus pair needs to get the hint!).
Is that you Mr. Richards?
All of my adult pairs are kept separate. I have a few in the same tank, but they have dividers between them. The males sometimes swim through the eggcrate to "socialize" with their neighbors when they don't have nests, but other than that, they are all separated. I wouldn't recommend keeping clown pairs together, although I know it has been done before with at least some success.
