Where do all the Clown Fish go......

Was just thinking, most of my local reef shops get a good number of fish in, but nothing excessive, maybe 10 clowns.
But my local big box fish store, they get 100's of clowns in every week, and by the time the next order is arriving there are only a couple clowns left from the last order.

Is there that many more salt water tanks then I think?

The store I go to got in a hundred or so clowns a while back and they were gone within a week. I asked where they all go and was told that a lot of the people who buy clowns end up coming back to buy another....and another.....so I would wager that a lot of those clowns you're wondering about went down the toilet....

You can always ask them. It is possible that they are supplying the Clown Fish to other stores. And yes the hobby is getting rather large. The cost of running a simple marine tank is lower. Along with people LFS employees included, dont feel that a marine tank or reef tank is hard to do, 20 years ago keeping sps or any corals was considered almost impossible. Now you can buy a AIO reef tank add water, LR and in a few months have a nice reef tank.

I figured most ended up in the porcelain tank, but how many would you buy before you figure something might not be right?
