Where do phosphates come from?

Very interesting posts but I have to agree with Matt on this one. I have been running filter bags now for nearly 2 years and have zero po4 present in my tank. I also agree with Tony that it is a pain to keep changing them but after seeing all the crap these bags take out of my tank I won't do without them. It's part of my normal maintenance now. I don't think skimmers can remove all debris and having a filter bag just assures it will be removed from my tank. I also think they help keep the water crystal clear for my SPS corals. Just my 2 cents.
 
I don't use filter bags. I don't skim. No PO4, at least not readable on Salifert kit. Just water changes with good ole' RO/DI seems to do well for me.
