Im getting my plumbing list together for my 700 gal. build and holy cow these 3 inch True union ball valves are not cheap.

Does anyone use gate valves with unions instead of the ball valves?

Im actually a bit relieved now, at first i had the inlet and outlet @ 2 inches for the Super Dart Gold pump, but now i'm told its a 2 inch inlet & 1.5 in outlet.

That will reduce plumbing cost quite a bit :)

I just bought two 3/4" gate valves and paid nearly $50.00 for the pair. So if you are looking to save money, you're outta luck. However the control you have with a gate valve is far superior to what a ball valve will give you.

Good gate valves cost as much, or more, than good ball valves.

Use ball valves to start/stop flow...use gate valves to control flow.

I was very curious when I saw 3". I know 2hp pumps only use 2". With valves you get what you pay for, my cheap ones hardly turn but the $50 ones work great.
