Perhaps this is really basic information but I am having trouble deciding where is the best place to put chemical filter media such as chemi-pure or whatever. I am building a sump for my 29 gal reef and the flow works something like this:
Overflow from display -> skimmer section -> fuge / bio filtration -> return area w/ pump
Between which sections should I build a place for filter media? the easiest place to put it would be right before the skimmer section and this is also where it would have the most pressure. However, somehow I feel like I ought to let the skimmer do it's job and then run it through the chemical to try and lighten the load on my bio filtration. I don't plan on running media all the time, just when the tank needs it or when I am out of town.
Also I understand it is best to push all the water volume through the media, water taking the path of least resistance would flow around it if it can. What kind of designs do people use to hold chemical media other than stuffing it between baffles(of which I have none)?
