Where is everyone?

Ssssshhhhhhhhhhhh quiet Colin,I needed a break lol. Just kidding. All is well on my home front. My new bimac is growing and doing well. My little hatchling is now 5 weeks old and growing. All the animals I have are doing very well. As far as plans for the summer. I have the first week in July off, so I think I am going to grab my tent and go camping for a few days. Its tuff to leave at times with so many tanks going.
Did you ever find your missing octopus Colin?

Just spent a week in Manihi (350 miles north, northeast of Tahiti) which is the Octopus cyanea capital of the world. At noon while saying goodbye to the dive operator, I watched two very, very large O. c. mating in no more than 3 inches of water. Several others were cruising the area. They had no fear and as the female was trying to escape from the male, I stepped in front of her path to see what she would do. She crawled up and between my legs and kept on her way.

Several years ago I suggested this atoll to Roger Hanlon as a great place to watch O. c. One of my former students built a black pearl farm there and O. c.s were every where. I even watched one kill an 18 inch green turtle. Roger took his group to Manihi and has published some of their research. I am happy to report that the octopus population is still thriving on Manihi.

Talk about a dream vacation. I would love to spend a week at a place like that and with O.cyanea too! And I thought Costa Rica was nice!

Sorry should have answered this in last message :)

Well that small octo has totally vanished! I guess it escaped. It had never shown any signs of climbing out though! I am gutted, it was coming along so nicely.

So everyone.... cover the tanks even of species that arn't supposed to climb!!!!

Any new pics of how that baby is coming along Chris? And do you still think it is mercatoris?

That dwarf I got is a secretive little bugger! I never see it except the odd arm sticking out of a 3/4" pipe. It even uses shells to block off the ends. So I reckon than in 4 weeks i have seen it a grand total of about 15-20 mins! It is eating amphipods and that's it! It lives beside shrimps, hermits and snails and is showing them no interest at all.

Hey everyone,

I'm still here as well. The octo is doing great since he is the only ceph in his very own, spacious 135 gallon tank. He has grown a little(he's about 10" armtip to armtip), and he is still regularly accepting frozen shrimp on a stick. I try to get him live ghost shrimp at least twice a week though. I will try to take some more movies of him and maybe even a decent photo when I get some spare time. My new house is being built, and I haven't had a lot of spare time lately.

Hi Mike,
glad to see your okay and your octo.

I suppose that aquariums tend to be more of a winter hobby than in summer..... tell me more about your new house.....
C

Well, the house is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a study. It's about 1800 square feet, and I should be in it in about another month. I am not looking forward to paying someone to move my aquariums, but I can't do it by myself. My big thing now is to figure out where to put them in the house. I would love to get some cuttlefish from Richard Stride soon, but I think it's going to have to wait until the Octo in my 135 gallon expires in another year or so.
