What color are tomato clown eggs? Do they look like a bright orange spot about 2 inches across?

Nice title... Only thing it needed was an actually between when and I. :D

Clown eggs will be in a patch formation. The eggs are about the size of a pin head and will be orange/red in color. Egg mass could be anywhere from less than an inch to over 4 inches in diameter. Eggs will only be orange for the first 2 days. After which they will turn brown then silver due to the eyes of the developing fry. Easiest way to tell you have a nest is many males will stop eating or at least will not stop fanning a spot on the rockwork next to their host anemone/coral/whatever.

Cool. So I loose my corals but my fish are spawning. I guess that's a trade.

How long till they hatch? Will they live? Anything I need to do?

mwood - check the fish breeding forum here on RC, and there's also another forum out there for marine fish breeders that has some great instructions.

you got PM.

Yup, lots of stuff to do and it is not as easy as letting them just live in the tank. If you are really interested I suggest you buy the book Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson. It is about $23 on amazon and well worth it. The eggs will hatch around 8-10 days after being laid depending on your tank temp. To raise them you will need a supply of rotifers. I know Hung at SOM has some right now, but I don't know of anyone else. You would do best to use night collection with a flashlight until you can get them to lay their eggs on a removable tile. The links to the breeders forum and clownfish forum should fill in the details and most likely have my posts all on them.
