Where should my closed loop intake be?

In the planning and design phase of a 30x30x18 cube and would like to try and get away with a closed loop on a Dart and Oceans motion as flow and wanted to get thoughts on the intake to the closed loop.

I was thinking of placing the intake in the pre-filter box OR simply in the bottom of the tank with a big strainer.

Is there advantages or dis-advantages to one over the other?

The only problem with intakes on the bottom panel is if they ever leak, the entire tank could drain. My intakes are at the bottom edge of my back panel. If I could do it again, I'd make them about 1/2 way down instead.

What did you mean by putting them in the 'prefilter box'? Is that the overflow area?

yea, I understand the risk of the bottom of the tank. I think if I did go that route of inside the main display it would have a pipe and stariner about half way up.

Yea, prefilter is the same as the overflow (i think), so i was thinking of having it made to include a drain to the sump and one to the closed loop.
