Don't want to hijack this thread. Do you need to dip clam? I've never had one.

Clams are inverts, no need to dip.
The importance with clams are to be acclaimed very slowly.
When you drip acclimated for an hour or so , you can put a plastic bag around it and put it in another container with your aquarium water.
Let it sit there for few minutes and then plastic wrap it again and move it to display.
This will reduce risk of LFS water get into your tank.

Thanks Crook. What's the quality of their livestock like? Is it good?

Mira, I'm not exactly following your acclimation instructions. Could you provide clarification about how the plastic bag is involved?

Clam should not be exposed to the air, putting plastic bag around it while handling will reduce the risk.

Sometimes people dip clam in fresh water to kill pests.. Ellis aquatic has nice clams. Healthy

Adding one more task. Clams sometimes carry pyramid snails. Look this up on rc and make sure to inspect and remove them if found.

I've been shopping at JDs for the last couple years. Bought lps sps and clams and have had a ton of success with his livestock. I recommend him vs most of the LFS in LA.

one thing for sure is Jayson dips everything in lugol. so their tanks are pretty clean (coral/clam wise)

Thanks. I thought JD was a different shop from Ellis. I've never been to Ellis. Will check them out soon.

No shade at anyone but WE are responsible for keeping pests out of OUR tanks. As much as any LFS does, pests are guaranteed to be present due to the constant introduction of new specimens. That said, I do appreciate LFS such as EA that really try to keep their tanks pest-free.

Hey everyone,

thinking of adding a clam to my tank. any recommendations for where to buy?

Like you, I want to add a clam. Do you know which species?

Did some research:

Tridacna maxima - https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?c=497+529+1649&pCatId=1649
Tridacna crocea - https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+529+1650&pcatid=1650
Tridacna squamosa - https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+529+589&pcatid=589
Tridacna derasa - https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?c=497+529+585&pCatId=585

Ellis Aquatics has a gold squamosa I think for $40 or $50
Vivid Aquariums has a blue squamosa which I am told is rare for $399
