Where to Buy Mantis Shrimp Online

Shipping $ makes me so sad. Eyeballing that one, but may have to let wallet speak when I have at least one for sure shop that can get me a Sycllarus @ $60.

Wish I lived on the coast.

Who nabbed the Graphurus from DD?

That would be me! I think it's pretty funny that you asked as you were the one on DVRC that got me started on my Mantis Shrimp love!!

Little delay in the process as I received a call this morning from Drs. Foster & Smith saying that they can't ship today due to bad weather in Wisconsin. What they are doing is shipping it Friday for Saturday delivery at no additional cost to me. Appreciate this in 2 ways. One, I like that they worry about the survival of the mantis, and also that they also made sure that I get it as soon as possible even though it will cost them extra to ship.

This will be my 5th mantis. I've got a Smithii, a Chiragra, a Havanensis, a Peacock, and soon the Graphurus. Nice 20 Long all set up and waiting!!

So far, my most interactive mantis is my Havanensis. He/She spends most of its time out in the open. Absolutely loves smashing on the occasional fiddler crab I offer. My Chiragra is definitely the most reclusive. Almost never comes out and will only partly come out from it's burrow to get food offered.

Hoping the Graphurus lives up to it's reputation and is interactive.

I started the craze on DVRC but dang - 5 stomatopods? You have surpassed me man! I haven't been on DVRC in a while and kinda moved into other preds right now with my angler and waspfish. Still love stomatopods but currently have none, lost my Viridis around May and my Chiragra about a year ago.
Probably getting a new mantis sometime soon - thinking a Wennerae or Smithii would be a perfect species for a 5 or 10g on my desk in my office at home.

Your Chiragra sounds like the typical Chiragra. Mine was pretty active which makes me think he might not have been a Chiragra. My Viridis was like that though - I only saw his head peaking from the burrow and that's the extent he would come out.

Hope the Graphurus does well for you. Not going to lie, I was considering it if it hung around after Christmas but I knew that was a long shot.

That one on second page they've had for months. Think it was originally like $100, now $45. Cool that they get so big but between needing a deep sand bed and their general more reclusive nature not for me. Not for a first one at least.

Yeah, but their has to be some experienced mantis keepers out their looking for a nice L. Malcafa.

www.ccritters.com is saying they have six N. Oerstedii's available. I'm not sure of this company's reputation, but they are only $8, plus shipping of course. Dr. Caldwell has pretty high praise for N. Oerstedii's usually.

Getting a Mantis Shrimp on Okinawa

Getting a Mantis Shrimp on Okinawa

I got stationed on Okinawa, Japan. Anyone know how to get one here? Is it possible to mail order them from here? Or am I stuck hunting down local shops for the rare chance that they'd carry one?

I would think you might be able to find one there due to its close proximity to coral reefs. You might even be able to collect one, not sure how close you are to the coast. I was in Europe not too long ago and they do have regular access to mantis shrimp providers, but I'm not sure about Okinawa. Good luck man, would suck not to be able to find a mantis.

Help ! ! !
