Where to buy MH or PC Bulbs

Where is the cheapest and best place to buy MH or PC bulbs?

I was looking at Marine Depot but it seemed a little expensive.

Thanks
Shelby

Also try http://www.hellolights.com it's been about 6 months since I've purchased from them, but sometimes they have sales that are good. I liked what I recieved for the price. Just another option. However there are more and more online bulb stores that are making for more competative pricing across the board. I recently got 2 - 250 watt DE hamilton 14k's for 76.00 shipped. I just can't remember who I ordered them from. I'll try to look and see and repost when I figure it out.

Go slowly Shelby. Get more information about what bulbs you need before you buy not all 250w MH bulbs are the same. Make sure that you're comparing the same bulbs. Hellolights may be cheaper but are they the same. Fords and Toyotas are both vehicles but they aren't the same.

That does sound like a good deal though and 14K is excellent. You shouldn't even need your PCs with those bulbs unless you're using them to gradually ramp up and down.

I've found that with the 14k you don't need the pc's other than for the flouresence that pc's can provide. I've yet to find where I ordered the bulbs from, but I'm still looking. I do however know that they came directly from Hamilton by way of my order thru the online supplier. As far as all bulbs not being the same I figured that was understood, hence the reference to the Hamiltons. Take a look at what you want and try to search for the same, you'll find the prices vary from place to place, and even from time to time with the same place.

You can do a google search of "Hamilton 14k metal halide" or something similar and find lots of sales/sellers. When I tried it just now I found that These guys seem to have decent prices.
Or just cruise through the sponsors banner page here on RC.
I recently got a 250w Hamilton SE for $48 plus shipping, but can't remember where. $50 to $60 for a quality bulb is very reasonable from what I've seen.

The 75g mixed reef is still NO.
But on my 40g SPS tank that I started a year and a half ago I've gone from 4 x 96wPC's to 400w MH to 250w MH -- from that limited experience, I can honestly say, I prefer NO's. :D

Neither 14K or 15K should need any actinics but I think 2 400w MH on a 75 gallon tank is some serious overkill. I'd keep the spectrum up at the 14k to 15 K range but drop the wattage to half or less of what you're using.

I agree but my tank is a 150 not a 75. (I had 3x400w last year but took one out. I plan to move the two wider apart this week so I can more evenly spread the light. My tank has a center brace made of thick glass that I must constantly clean off the salt. By moving the lamps outward and adding new reflectors, I hope to mitigate this limitation.

This is one of the advantages of making your own lights.

PS my tank evaporates 2.5 Gals/day

You're right. DIY always gives you more options. I was just trying to keep it as simple as possible for Shelby. A pair of 175s would be better suited to the 75. I removed the center strip (you can't even call it a brace) on my 110. That's not an option in your case.
