Where To Buy Onyx?

http://www.rods-reef.com/liveStock.php?pID=2

Rod and inland aquatics cary them...

Rod has the best ones around.. There are a few breeders that recently started to cary a few of them too...

Live aquaria does not have true onyx clowns... Unless ora started raising them and they are getting them from ORA,, Onyx clowns are not wild caught and I knw the ones they had were wild caught but I have net been to there site in a while..

Onyx clowns are a strain that started from c-quest.....

BAHAHAHA evil laugh I just bought a mated pair today that came with a singapore anemone that they were hosted to and are doing great in my tank total cost for the three items was 155 dollars good or bad price????

I would also suggest buying them from Rod. I've seen his pair and you can be guaranteed your getting true Onyx Clowns. He has tons of offspring at his store now.

i recommend buying from Rods-reef.com also.

you WILL have onyx clowns.

not only do his clowns have good color, there body shape is very strong.

ive had SI wild percs, regular percs, etc. and the diff i see from rods, clowns is that his clowns seem to have very thick, stocky wide bodies. as a result a strong looking clown body.

its like a bulldog in the clown hobby :)they have a hump it seems.

its a sutle diff. but for my personal taste its what i prefer. i ve had oppurtunites to buy other onyx from other sources but i chose not to take a risk at getting the particular qualities i like in rods.

others im sure are very good also. i jsut have my own preference.

C-quest may have coined the name (and so your definition of "Onyx" may be that it comes from there), but their fish (that bred true) were originally WC (and there's more out there!) and were not selectively bred (other than continually chosing good broodstock) or "developed" there. These fish are just a naturally-occuring, heritable color pattern of A. percula that have been given the name "Onyx" in the trade. As such, they are available WC from LA, but as they are naturally variable, they may not all look exactly the same.

Someone mentioned the black A. ocellaris. This is also a natural wild fish that comes from Austraila (near Darwin in the North). It is not often available WC (if ever?) because of difficult collecting issues in that area, so most of the ones available are bred in captivity. These clowns often arrive with a dusky coloring with lots of orange, but when they mature, the black develops more fully.

You got few good options here and I would suggest you get it from liveaquaria.com
for the following reasons

1: They are RC sponsors and some of the money goes toward keeping RC provide the service to everybody.

2: They have 14 days live quarantee on them

3: If you spend $70 extra on top of the fish you get them shipped for free.

4: They might be wild caught and if you call and ask them to send you a pair.

the bad thing is what if they send you two females then is no good but see if you can talk to the

In the other hadn if you get if from breeders you will end up with (sex not decided yet) group which is good and even if it might take them forever to spawn.

i also have a pair from LA and they are great. and i did get male, female. but they dont seem to have them on the web site right now so they must be out.

Do they usually have a picture
which website.
when looking for them you have to look for the once that come from Papua New Guinea or areas around that. Solomon Island True percs is nice looking too but does not look as nice as realy Onyx.

can you please post pics of your onyx from LA.

ive seen beautiful clowns from LA but no one seems to have them for a long time or atleast they dont comment on them.

zooqi, you have a good point with respect to breeding. wc onyx from LA prob. have a better chance of breeding sooner due to there undetermined age.

thank you in advance.
