The onyx at LA come from Quality Marine and wholesale for $100 a pair. So if your LFS has an account with them, just have them order directly.
The onyx from PNG are quite nice, I have had several pairs from Quality, all have come in great shape, have wonderful personalities and all have spanwed within 9 months of coming in.
Make sure you put them thru a QT, especailly this time of year. All of the pairs I got had internal parasites, but cleared up nicely.
what did you use to treat the internal parasites? im not at the level where i recog. symptoms of internal parasites. can you take a PICS of your onyx. how long have you had them?
thanks for posting my pic. thats my female. she is about 4 in. the male is lucky to be 2 in. they both have extremely dark bands. during the day the male is almost always near the anemone and the female goes all over. at night the bunk up together. ive had them for about 3 months.
no, you don't want to move them if they lay eggs because it might take them month two or more to lay eggs again. You need to be able to collect the babies when they hatch to move them to different tank and not parents. They don't like things moved around the tank much too so leave the area they are at same all the time.
Does anyone have a pic of some really "mature" onyx clowns?
With age do they all eventually get additional irregular black patches (or just more black to the point that they look like they've been dumped in soot)?
I have a supply of Pipzine on hand, dont think it is manufactured anymore. Do a search in the forum, I think some people have found a sub for it.
Sysmptoms... Stringy feces, bloating. Keep in mind that if they are off their food for a few days, they will have stringy feces for a couple of days and not parasites. If the string is there every day, then you have parasites.
Keep a sharp eye out for broke and velvet this time of year too.

ive contemplated ordering onyx from LA often, but i prob will stay with rods-reef. bec the risk of having to deal with diseases. i guess when spending that much money for a fish id like to think im getting a disease free fish.
Got my pair? from LA, not 100% sure they are a true mated pair, the female is large and the male? or just juvi is quite small...they appear to be allright together, although the female did grab onto and hold the smaller one by his fin...will keep an eye on them to see if i need to seperate them...yet for the most part they are staying side by side
great pair, thanks for pic, please keep us updated with there progress. im sure they are not a mated pair. ive called LA confirming that. but either way they are wc so in time they should develop soon enough.
