Does sapphire glass have that green tint to it? THis is the reason I'm looking for "Starfire".

No it doesn't. It's also called low iron glass and I have heard Glass cages version is not as clear as others FWIW. I tried calling around to some local glass shops a couple of years ago and no one had it in Nahsvegas that I could find. It's something you will most likely have to special order. If you find any LMK because I wouldn't mind changing my glass shields out.

thanks, Chris

Wayne has inspired me for possibilities of building my own tank and I'm just trying to do some research. The design would only call for 3 sheets, but I have no idea of the price of this stuff.

Chris, when you checked around... did any of the glass shops even know what it was?

To be honest I can't remember but I think I had to say something like "glass that doesn't have a green tint to it" and then they said no.

"glass that doesn't have a green tint to it"
exactly or low-iron glass
StarFire is actually a brand name of glass made on the west coast I believe.

Checking out glass cages site, I don't see any tank pictures that aren't green tinted glass. =\ I wonder if these are just all old pictures.

Starfire (brand name or whatever) is supposed to be closest to acrylic.

Even Glass Cages low-iron glass tanks have a significant green tint to them. I don't think their starfire is the same stuff that oceanic is using for their "tech" series" or what I have seen on other tanks called "starfire". I'm pretty sure they do sell sheets of glass though and the green tint isn't as noticable once the tank is filled with water.

I'm starting to wonder if there really is such a thing as starfire glass.... or is this just some wack name someone came up with for a particular quality of low iron glass. I searched for a few hours today online and didn't see a single supplier for any such named product. Although I did see plenty of people saying they use it to make their product.

=\

This stuff is definitely clear:

I think it's spelled differently. I thought it was spelled Starphire, but it could be something else.
