Ive been looking for a mantis shrimp for a few months now, i really want a Gonodactylus smithii or a smaller Odontodactylus... Ive looked online and at some LFS and have only found scyllarus for sale. I was just curious as to how everyone on this forum acquired their mantis' cause Ive been having a hell of a time trying to get my hands on one!

Yeah, me too. I've put calls in to all the specialty stores in the area (i.e. premium aquatics, inland aquatics, etc) and asked them if they find a hitchhiker mantis to let me know and put it aside.

I got my Odontodactylus scyllarus and my Gonodactylus platysoma from a LFS here in southern California. The O.S. was 30 bucks and the G.P. was about 25.

Yes well ya'll californians, (and floridians for that matter) don't count twords a where to get. Its just WAY too easy in those states.

I got lucky just yesterday and found a Mantis at a LFS near me, but that is a first. Other than that I have gotten mine from other reefers. Your best bet Online is Liveaquaria.com, Marinedepotlive.com, and Fishsupply.com. LA is almost getting regular for Peacocks. As for findina another specific species, unless You can see it and ID it its just a crap shoot.

Yet another reason I should get outta here and go to California--Me, my protein skimmer and my dirtbike and I'm outta here!! Mantis Shrimp as motivator for life change, hhhmmnn....

Iv'e bought all of mine locally...

G. chiraga, G. viridis from a store in Oakland, and my G. platysoma,2nd G. chiraga, both O. scyllarus, N. wennerae (R.I.P.), G. glabrous and G. ternatensis here in San Francisco.
