Where to get a food safe product to lubricate and protect metal

Just finished making some DIY lumenarc lights, with a slide out rack , need to buy some stuff that will lubricate and at the same time protect and keep a few metal parts from rusting, since it is right above the tank it would have to be safe for the critters.
Is there anything you guys recommend, that can be picked up locally?

How about a spray can of silicone???

I thought about that, a few days ago at Lowes, I saw a can of silicone spray and when I looked at the label and warnings, some how didn't look like something you would want to use around a reef tank but I could be wrong

Id take a guess that your buddy Bill has a few good suggestions on lubes.


But seriously - interesting question - wonder how long just veggie oil or olive oil or something like that would last???

I don't think there is anything out there unless you go industrial. I was thinking of something along the lines of a paste or jelly but then the thought was the heat from the lamps make liquify it.
