where to get a gigas?

If you know any retailers in your area that use "fish heads inc" as there wholesaler, they can most likely get you a gigas clam.

I get the mailer from them once a week, and I've seen them in the large size of 10"+ the past couple of weeks.

Also check out if your retailer uses ORA, they have nice smaller 4-5" gigas clams (when available)

the small ORA gigas are usually not available to end of the year trey sept. and november. An I have seend the mailer also but most of the clams are 14+ inches and run around $300 the store owner said they had a huge shipment (the inporters) of Monster gigas some larger than 20". good luck if you find a nice blue spot 6-7 inches look me up.

Do you really want a gigas in a 125 gallon tank? Assuming you keep it alive, it's going to get far too large for your tank. For the most part, these clams should really be left in the ocean.

geez, I have a 12" one in a 180g. it has it's own space and everything. that bugger keeps moving side to side and I'm always having to adjust it back. this is the only clam I've been able to keep alive and quite frankly I'm glad I went w/ a 180g b/c between this one clam and my other corals, takes up alot of space!!

Scapes, I'm not sure if you're for or against a gigas in a 125, but my point here is that gigas get much bigger than 12". I think on average, they grow to several feet and can weigh hundreds of pounds. Granted, that takes quite awhile, but what do you do with it when it gets too big for a 125 or 180 gallon tank. No one's going to want it, so you end up having to kill it. Not a good long term plan.

oh, yes I totally agree w/ ya'!! I was just trying to say that I have a 180g and it takes up alot of space in my tank which is 6x2x2. mine was in an 80g (my first tank) and it outgrew that sucker in 8 months. so, yeah, I'd have to say that unless you're willing to invest in an upgrade in a couple of years, even from a 125g, then I'd stick to maybe, oh, anything besides a gigas! well, even squammies and derasas get big, so I'd say a crocea or maxi would be great!

hey scapes and air, I just got one and put it in my 220. If I can keep him alive for 1 year than i think I can for 10 years. he is 12" now and the tank is 30" front to back and 6' long. I should be good for a long time. Could be interesting in the future. I would be so lucky if he outgrows this tank and i have to get a new one for him. 1st I am going to just concentrate on keeping him happy as a clam should be. lol Take care
