can i get "dead" rock? and if so where? i would like to get a bunch and let it turn to live rock.
i figure a 50/50 mix of live rock and dead rock.
anyone know where i can get some cheap?

well if ur friendly w/ any LFS , ask them to order from Carib-sea, they sell base rock in 3 different densities and shapes.

Nope, and it will still cost more than the hirocks rock. At least it used to. Check out my gallery for pics of the rock.

reef bones (carib sea) are really nice if you get the show pieces. 100 pound box has about 3-4 rocks in it so they are a good large sizes :)

As far as I know you can not order direct from Caribsea but your LFS can. You should be able to get it for around $2 a Lb if you look hard enough.

why do you need to order direct from them? go to their website and use the dealer locator.

I'd look at the rock from www.reeferrocks.com. It is more expensive than hirocks, but I've bought them both and the rock from reefer rocks is much better with lots of holes and very porous. If you ask, Captain Jer will e-mail you a pic of the rock that he plans to send and it you don't like it you don't have to take it. What I got from hirocks was basic chunks with a few holes.

I also don't think you really need a 50/50 mix. I'd go with 75% base and handpick the other 25% from local stores and get a nice mix of coralline and critters.

Ill also have to say reeferrocks is much better than hirocks or anywhere else for that matter.

Just tell capt jer what rocks you want, and he'll try his hardest to get those for you lol. He has found every rock ive asked for so far. His customer service is probably the best also.
