Where to get first SPS frags?

I think my tank is ready for SPS frags. Water parameters are spot on. I live in Orange county, California. Which local store has safe (red bug free etc.) and cheap frags? I don't want to spend big $ on large colonies and lose them due to my lack of experience. Thanks for your help.:bounce2:

No idea where you can get the frags but dip everything you put into your tank no matter if they say they are pest free or not.

I know you are asking for LFS choices but my choice, and what I will be doing, will be to look into the Buyer/Seller feed back section in this forum and buy a frag package from one of the sellers there. I have a list of where I will be buying my first sps frag packs from.
Not all, but some at the top of my list, no particular order, these are all good sellers with top of the line, pest free corals. You may have to wait a bit as they don't have corals for sale all of the time, you could PM them and let them know you are looking. Their prices are cheaper and their frags are bigger than you will find at the LFS

Go to the social reefers forum here on RC and wait for someone to offer a pack. Currently, if you decide to go to the SCRK meeting tomorrow, you can get some cheap sps frags. Solitude(mike) has a thread selling $10 frags now. Get em while you can. Hth

I'll throw in my 2 cents.

No matter where you get them from, I would start small. I say this just in caution due to your first experience with SPS. (I really could have used more advice myself). Grab one or two frags that you like and keep an eye on them. No need to jump into caring/worrying about some 7 corals. If you can prove to yourself that you can keep them happy/coloring over a period of weeks then move forward. I first thought I was keeping stable params before basically discovering that I wasn't. Anyways, keep it simple. If things go well, you should totally look up some corals on here.

Good advice. Start with easier sps like montis (encrusting, caps, digis), poccis, stylos.

Local club. It's cheap, and it's aquacultured, so it's hardier.
