I'm looking to set up my 300 gallon tank in about 2 weeks and need to get some southdown playsand. Anyone know where I can get some, I'll be in Naples, this is the closest active forum I could find. Thanks

I've looked around and have come to the conclusion that it is not available in any of the local stores...

We have a member in our club that has a large amount of southdown sand for sale, you can contact him I am sure he could sell you a few hundred pounds, his name is Matt and his screen name is treeman.

His sand is aragonite... it is not southdown (same stuff, but southdown is a trademark name.) It is in LARGE bags, and very cheap comparatively. Just make sure you rinse, rinse, and rinse, as there is a lot of very fine sediment there. It'll cut down on your waiting to be able to see the back of the tank time. It'll also help control the sandstorms if your clownfish waves the sand around or the powerhead stirs it up. I did my tank with his stuff, and it was great.

Can you post a picture of your sandbed so i can get an idea on how fine this sand is. How much flow do you have in your tank? I'm thinking about buying some from Treeman also and could use the pic for an idea. Thanks

It is fine sand.....its hard to tell from this picture but this is from Treeman....(Matt).....Works great for me have it in 3 or my tanks
