Where to locate pH probe

I have my pH probe in my sump/fuge. I first put the probe in the section with the skimmer and it went wild! I then moved it to the return section where it stabilized but was showing a low reading. I then took it out and calibrated it and put it back in and also checked with my API kit. Api showed everything O.K. but I still got the same readings on my probe. Then I noticed that when I shut down my pump to feed, the pH jumps up to where it should be and holds good until I turn the pump back on, then it drops. Any ideas?

I use the american marine pinpoint, all of mine are mounted in the refugium area. The only fluction I see is with the temperature change. You can figure a 5-10 degree spike per pump, if they are mounted outside the tank. I also install filtration systems and manufacture sumps and refugiums.
