Where to put chiller?

Where should I put my chiller. Distance is not really an issue, but I really don't know where the best place to put it would be? Where do you guys have yours plumbed? Pics would help.

Thanks

I would recomend outside of your house at all costs.... Chillers throw off a lot of heat and I have used them unsuccesfully under the following conditions:

1. 1/3 HP Chiller next to a 90 gallon tank located in my family room. The heat and noise were unbearable and I moved the chiller to:

2. Garage - 1/3 HP chiller really raised the temperature of my garage over 100 degrees. Not the best approach but better than having the chiller in the family room.

3. 1/2 HP chiller in garage for my 400 gallon tank - No way too hot

4. 1 HP and 3/4 HP chillers outside my house to cool the 800 gallon system. Works great.....

If you have a small system you could probably get away with a small chiller in garage or vented closet..... I have attached a picture of my piping out of the house for reference.....

Have fun.....:D

Ours is on our screened in patio. We hid the vinyl tubing behind the baseboard and tunneled through the concrete cinder block next to the sliding glass door.

I had one next to a tank, lots of heat and lots of noise. On the tank I had after that one I went through the wall and put it outside. Much better. No noise, no heat inside. And the chiller worked better outside in the cooler air.

We have a 1/3HP AquaLogic on our 250g tank. Here are a few pictures from our install...

First, I cut a hole in the drywall where the stand meets the wall

Then, I removed the baseboard and cut away the lower drywall to allow enough room to run the plumbing

I had to drill through the exterior wall (concrete) to get to the patio

Two 1.25" OD vinyl hoses run to the chiller and back, plus a 14g power wire (I prefer to keep the controller by the tank)

The plumbing exits the wall outside

A 90 hose adapter turns the corner to the chiller

Ball valves to allow quick removal of the chiller for maintenance, etc.

Back inside, the plumbing was redone to Tee the chiller loop off the return pump (on the left) The returning water dumps back into the sump.
