Where to?

Hey guys, I just moved to south Florida northern tip of Broward county actually. Anyway I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a quality reef/fish store to frequent in that area?

Thanks guys/gals!

the only fish stores i trust to buy live stuff is Exotic Aquatic, Marine net and Elite Marine. You can try your luck with all pets and all fish but i wouldn't at-least not for anything living, tho all fish usually has some good deals on clearance items.

Agreed with Barrier Reef and Exotic Aquatic. I also like Living Reef Aquariums.

While Doreo is correct about All Fish Emporium, I will say that their new QT systems seem to be working well. Last time I was there (last week) I took a walk around the fish room and was pretty pleased with what I saw. No immediate ich infections that I saw, and only one dead fish.

Take that with a grain of salt, and PLEASE QT all your fish before adding them. I don't care if you got them from All Pets or Exotic...they ALL need some time-out time in a quarantine system to observe for possible infections.

Welcome to the area. Tell us about your system or build? What do you like to see in your glass cage? Fish sticks polyps etc

Elite Marine just opened and its amazing. The coral selection is hands down the best around. They have a state of the art QT system, and they dont even put fish on the floor until they've been in QT for 20-30 days.

With that being said, and the new found competition, Barrier Reef in Boca have stepped up their game. They have started stocking alot of ORA corals, and there fish selection is 3 times that of Elite. Elite has more experience in Corals than Barrier.

Both are great stores, be prepared to wait in line at both of them.

Barrier Reef has been super helpful to me, especially Kelly - I'm just beginning my build & they've answered tons of questions. Never once did I feel pressured to buy

I have never walked into all fish or all peta and seen less then 5 dead much more in all fish. That along with they are usually more then anyone makes me hesatant. The only plus is at least all pets in coral springs will trade out dead fish within a reasonable amount of time. I had to do this 3 Times after fish died within 2 days

Someone at work just brought me in a coupon for Allfish - 20% off any single item. Going to see if they can apply it to an AI Vega - no exclusions listed on the coupon like some other retailers. I do have to say they're pretty competitive on dry goods.

+1 to Doreo - I'm not too confident with their livestock, I've noticed the same things & it's not like I'm waiting at their door when they open.

All Fish Emp is by far one of the better dry goods stores around. Never have bought livestock from them, nor do I think I ever would but I'm there frequently stocking up on supplies.

For fish Exotic aquatic lives up to their name. Rob brings in some nice and different fish.

Elite MarineLife also has a nice selection. Great people and knowledgeable. As someone mentioned they qt their fish on site. I'd be surprised if you bought a fish from them that was not eating already and in good shape. They also keep a decent amount of corals on hand. And the prices are labeled (for those that complained).

All fish despite the nay Sayers has the largest selection of dry goods and usually fish. They seemed to get picked on for the same things I see at 90% of the other stores out there.

The Reef Zone in plantation usually has affordable frags. However I have not been to their new spot since they were setting up.

Without knowing what you are looking for its hard to make a recommendation. Unless a store personally offends me (it has happened) I try to visit as many stores as I can. As you never know what they will have. Stock changes weekly. It all depends on what the wholesaler brings in.

Pet Word in Plantation usually has a decent selection ranging from fish to corals as well. They're right off of Broward Blvd.

This is also one of the places I frequent for fish. Picked up my Naoko from them. And almost pulled the trigger on this guy.

Thanks for all the great advice!

My tank is a 24 gallon aqua pod with an ai nano light, currently not up and running as I am moving as we speak to my permanent home this weekend.

There's a page on facebook, Ft. Lauderdale Coral Outlet, I've bought from them a couple of times...found them on craigslist...small tank and not a store but they have better prices and pretty quality stuff....Last time I got my acan colony... All fish is ok...buying fish from there kinda scares me, as far as coral, living reef has ok prices
