Which ammonia binder for QT?

Which ammonia binder/eradicator would you recommend for a QT? I'll be setting up a 55 gallon QT with an established sponge filter, but want to have something on hand in case I get a ammonia showing up in the tank.

I'm specifically looking for something that won't affect the bacteria on the sponge filter, and will actually allow them to reproduce so they can eventually handle the bioload.

If you add medication (ie cupramine) you can't use stuff like amquel. It'll break down the cupramine to a more toxic form. Just a heads up.
