I say Lyretail because those are the only ones I have experience with and think they are awsome!!! I also read that the Bartletts are hardy and I have seen them and think they are cool as well.

As for how many, I say for a 210 you can get away with 1 male and 7/8 females. I have 1 male lyretail and 5 females in my 135g and they are doing great. However during my research period I found that they tend to do better with a minimum of 7 females to 1 male.

Good luck!

I have 7 bartletts in my 125G SPS tank and they are doing great. Not picky either when it comes to feeding time. The general rule is a male to several females. I had a male and 6 females. However, 3 females did a change on me and now I have 4 males and 3 females. The only time there seems to be any agression is during feeding. The biggest male will chase all the others around(not just the other males) trying to get as much food as it can.

It's not an exact science and this does happen with the Bartletts. I think the Lyretails are more likely to keep just one dominant male in teh harem.

The males will bicker, that's for sure and the harem almost ceases to become a harem. I think you can have a few males if you have enough females though. Hopefully someone with more experience with Bartletts or Anthias in general can chime in.

I vote Bartletts. I will also go with 8 in my 210. My question is, where to get them, the lfs are real expensive @$50 each. To get 8 would hurt the wallet alittle. Anyone have a good store for them?

I have 3 dispars _These fish are beautiful & cute with all their bickering. I accidentally bought 2 males & 1 female. If I had it to do over I'd get about 7

I have one Cooper's anthias - it is a beautiful fish - A mix of these with the dispars would be nice.

I will never buy another bicolor - The one male I have has eaten 2 small fish & bullied a blackcap basslet. He tries to break up my mandarin pair & flame angel pair while they are in the middle of spawning

Like above if you go with bartlett's maybe 5 would be the largest group of these I'd try in hopes that the one male could control the 4 without a dominant female going for a piece of the action. One key might be to be sure that the male is significantly larger than any of the females.

I've heard squami's are aggressive toward each other

I have seen a bit of aggression between my 5 Lyretails but nothing really bad. Just some chasing really.

IME they are quite aggressive towards each other. My male keeps the females in line by chasing them around ramming into them but other than that its not to bad. One of my females is the outcast but thankfully she can chill on the other side of the tank and still get food.

They are not aggressive to my other fish which is good, they are just trying to establish the pecking order.
