I want to get a tang, but am afraid of the ich. I was wondering what tangs you guys think are the easiest to keep?

Basiclly Zebrasoma spp. are the best you can get from the Acanthuridae.
They are hardy and most do not grow as large as the other members of the family.

All salt water fish get ich not just tangs and not one more then others. Healthy fish have an ability to keep ich off, They have a good slime coat that can keep most ich parasites off. They may get one or two parasites but not to the point of infestation that can lead to death. If a fish is that bad it was a sick fish to begin with. I never treat for ich and never lost a fish to ich. There is ich in my tank, some of my fish I have had over seven years. I have six tangs in my tank. I have four cleaner gobies and they clean the fish every day. I occasionally may see a parasite on a fish but itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s rare.

my other fish include 2 bar gobies, a bicolor blenny, a sixline wrasse, a yasha hasse shrimp goby, a prawn goby, and a strawberry basslet.

I am particularly interested in getting a tang for its cleanup value. My water quality is good, but I had some macro algae hitchike in on some coral. It is a nuisance and my bicolor has no interest at all in eating it. I understand that the Zebrasoma genus in particular are adept at eating unwanted plantlife in an aquarium. But I have also heard that they can be little hotheads and get tough with other fish.

I have a small mimic lemon peel tang who is always grazing, have never had a problem with hair algae, and I don't even need an algae blenny with him around. Very hardy too, and friendly.

imo yellow tangs are the easiest. i'm no expert but you got to make sure it eats and will eat. Check for pinched stomach and also get a cleaner shrimp for the tank. Then just ot the tang before you put him in. Imo I think all tanks have ich it's that the fish your keeping are healthy info to fight it off.
