Which Ballast

Jason,
Hope you can help me decide. I am running 3-250 watt Iwasakis on 3 old 20 lbs grey metal box ballasts (not even sure what kind they are) and they use quite a bit of electricity. My question is what should I upgrade to. I would like to save some on the electric bill so electronic seems the way to go but I am on a budget also.

Suggestions on a ballast? I have looked at the ones you sell and can't decide.

Will the PFO, which is in my price range, save me any on the electric bill?

How are the LN Electronic ones? Would you recommend those? Has anyone had problems with them?

Icecap are kind of out of the question because of the price.l

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,

The PFO standard ballast would be similar to what you have. It's a regular halide ballast, they just enclose them in a nice heavy duty heat sink box with disconnects. So makes a nicer package, but they'll use probably same electric you have now. Unless your ballast are Mercury Vapor which many people use on 65K. If so, going PFO halide would save you some electric compared to that type of ballast.

The LN 250watt and IceCap new 250watt seem to be very good, very few defects so far. They should save you around 20% on electric, but i haven't seen any published reports.

The Eballast 250watt will save you 20% for sure, i seen some non-bias test on electric and they performed like a standard halide ballast but used around 20% less electric.

The other electronics should do the same, i just haven't seen any proof on it.

thanks

jason
