Which Blenny?

I would be carefully about making any kind of Blenny the first fish. New tank syndrome can make the first few fish difficult to keep alive, even though you think your cycle is finished. I recommend waiting awhile before adding fish. Do you have your clean up crew yet?

Yes. Also, they need some algae which new tanks often lack. Escenius spp. Need film algae, like on the glass. Lawnmowers and starrys may eat more filamentous algae.

Midas blennies are carnivores unlike other most other blennies. They are fine for a new tank and readily take pellet food. They don't have a swim bladder, thus their swimming motion is more eel like. They will find a crevice to back into and grab food out of the water column. As far as compatibility, I have one with 5 azure damsels and no problems, don't have clowns though. You can usually add a starry, bicolor or lawnmower down the road with a Midas present without problems.

Thats a nice species, don't they give a poisonous bite as I'm concerned as i get a lot of young relatives that come down and always opening the hood flap. I always warn them not to and try scaring them with something might leap out and bite you lol :lolspin: but when I'm away I'll have no control of that.

from what i've read about them the fangs are more of a defencive tool. and if by chance a lil bugger gets nipped i doubt the venom would harm them. Plus might teach them to keep their hands out of the tank.

I had a midas blenny, he was soo pretty, but he tried carpet surfing.
I then got a lawnmower ], found him in the overflow twice and then one day came home to find my hermits eating him:angryfire:

I now have a flame tail (same as bi color i think?) He is very active and gets along with all the other tank mate except a Sleeper Railway goby, sometimes they "argue" with each other swimming face to face with their mouths wide open. (this seems to have gotten better over time)

I also have a mesh top to keep everyone in the tank from now on.

Would there be any problems with me adding another midas blenny?

lol I'm sure the parents wouldn't appreciate me telling the kids 'I told you so' :lmao:
