My tank is only a few weeks old, so I'm not ready for a clam just yet. However, I would eventually like to keep one clam, and I like to research things well in advance.
My first question is, when is the appropriate time to add a clam? How established must the tank be?
How long must the clam acclimate until other livestock can be added?
Now here's the fun part. A little about my system.
40 Gallon Breeder- 36" X 18" X 16.5" high
36 X 15 inch 6X39W T5 Tek fixture sitting directly on the tank- aprox. 11-12 inches to the sandbed.
Bulb Configuration Back to Front:

I would like to place the clam on the sandbed towards the mid-front of the tank. If the clam is 3" at introduction, it would probably have a diagonal birth of aprox. 10" to grow- to the back rock.
The flow in my tank is provided by 4 MaxiJet 900s- aprox. 1000gph. There is plenty of flow near the sandbed, but I do have the extension nozzles pointing up on most of the jets for dispersed flow on the surface. The one straight jet will be well away from the clam.
I like to keep my specific gravity at 1.026, and my temp at 80...although it can often drop to 78, and will most likely fluctuate into the low 80s during the summer.
My lights will be run much more irradically than most, but I still should get in a decent photo period. (please don't question me on this)
So what clam is right for me? Squamosa? Deresa? Hippopus?
Thanks!
