Which fish will eat red mushrooms?

I'd like to get rid of the red mushrooms in my tank. I've read how hard it is to get them out of your main display once they start multiplying and I'm there.

I'm considering setting up a 55 FOWLR and cycling my mushroom covered rock into that tank for "cleaning."

I'll try to salvage all that I can for the trade at the LFS, but what can't be saved I'd like to have eaten. Which fish would be happy munching on my shrooms?

wait...you wanna get rid of all the mushrooms? are they all on one rock? if so...just sell the rock..you'd get a good price for it i'm sure lol. I see at the lfs they've got red mushroom rocks for like 60 bucks w/only 5 shrooms on it.

but i dont know of anything that eats them.

Cut them off and sale or trade them to other reefers, that is how I keep mine trimmed out.

I hear what you are saying. Unfortunately, they pop off rocks then reattach all over the tank. Some are on my DSB, some are in cracks between rocks, some are elsewhere.

I plan on selling the rocks that I can, but I can't sell all of them.


Anyone have a suggestion?

I considered that, but reading here at RC I've heard the stumps will grow back. Didn't happen to you?

I know what you are going thru, I have been cutting and removing them out of my main tank for awhile, the ones that pop off and land on the sand get moved to holding tank, others keep getting trimmed back and into holding tank, then either back to LFS for credits or sale and trade to other reefers, I have sold or traded around 200 of them in the last 3 months. Good luck.
When you cut them they do grow back I am making progress.

I had a Raccoon butterfly that would eat about 10-15 mushrooms a day...until I pulled him out.

Bag a plain live rock with mesh and put mushrooms in it. You'll likely have a salable mushroom rock by morning. Works with xenia, too.

I've kalked them like aptaisa. Usually just before a water change, then I vacuum them up.

Thinking about getting an angel..
Would QT my clam, rics, leather, and flower pot.
Aiptasia, Majano, Green Star poylps, zooanthids, and Green striped shrooms would all be on buffet.
Would this work?

ive cut tops off shrooms, then kalked out the base and it didnt grow back

you can even put frags on the kalk, if its mounted, itll act like a sor ot weak glue, and hold the frag on a little stronger then if it was just resting on it

ya my red mushrooms detatch from the main rock and go elsewher.. and the stump turns into a new mushrrom FAST!!

i have a small 29g soo eventually my tank will be covered in mushrooms..
if anny of u are in dallas i got some frags!!

I had a rabbitfish, Siganus Puellis (masked rabbitfish) , this guy had a taste for shrooms, and almost wiped mine out before I noticed.

I'll second the "sell them" request. Red's aren't that easy to come by. I'm still trying to get some.
