Which HOB skimmer and why ?

I am considering a HOB skimmer in the near future. Some of my main concerns are functionality, quietness (a big concern given tank is in main room), and ease of use. That being noted, which of the three listed would you choose and why?

1. AquaMaxx HOB-1 Hang-On-Back Protein Skimmer

2. Eshopps Hang-On Protein Skimmer PSK-75H

3. AquaC Remora/Remora Pro Protein Skimmers

P.S- this would be used for a 28 gallon JBJ nano in case you are needing that info as well. Thanks!

#1. I have this on my 28 nano. Fits perfect, quiet skimmer, skimms very well. Cant comment on others as I have Never used these. Wont be disappointed with this skimmer.

#2, it's cheaper and it gets the job done once tuned in, and with a little rigging, becomes super quiet. This is a case where cheaper doesn't always mean less quality, it's a pretty powerful little skimmer.

Any issues with opening the hood for the 28 gallon nano kokxy? I guess that is another concern with any of these skimmers!

I can open up the hood to the 3rd notch which gives me plenty of room to move about. You will need to make one cut in the pipe of the out take of skimmer. Easy to do, does no harm to skimmer performance. Let me know if you need anything else.

I have two PSK-75H's. I had some trouble dialing it in when I first installed it but once I figured out how to tune it, look out, it skims like a beast. You have to notch the small lip in the back to take the stock media basket out though. Check my build thread for pics.
I like them so much I just bought a PSK-100 in sump for my next build.

Ange062 swears by the AquaMaxx.

I've read that the Remora's are loud.

Yes, the Remora was more of a third skimmer I threw in there and was looking at the other two more.

It appears from what I have read both are good skimmers, thus it comes down form factor (size), amount of mods needed, and how loud it is. Do you two have pics of the mods for the AquaMaxx and the PSK-75 you made and how it looks in the back chamber?

Go to the thread started by Ange062. He has pictures of the mods he did with the aquamaxx, Basicly the same as what i did.

actualy, i had the remora next to my bed for 2 years and it was the quitest HOB skimmer ive ever owned. i would not recomend it because it took me about 2 months to figure it out, and ive never been able to get it like that again (only tried for about 1 week). go with #1, its your best bet.

aquamaxx hob is amazing i got it a few weeks ago and i couldnt be happier with it. fits very nicely on the back of my 28 gal nano cube
