Which Nikon to get?

I'm new to photography for the most part and am looking into getting a camera to take better pictures than my iPhone. I attempted to use my moms camera to get some macro shots of my tank, but the whole tank was white, couldn't see a thing.

I'm looking at the Nikon D3000, but would the cheaper Coolpix L810 be sufficient? I'd just like to take some quality pictures of my corals and fish, with the ability to take macro shots and videos as well.

Or if there is another brand that's good, I'll work with that. Any information would be helpful. I'd rather not spend a lot of money on the camera, that would mean less money on the tank

I'm new as well and got the nikon coolpix P7000 and love it so far!

I've never had an SLR but have to imagine that this is a lot like it with all the manual controls. The main difference being not being able to attach all the different lenses.

Does the coolpix have a macro setting?

I'm not looking to buy a super nice camera, I just want to take pictures of my tank

It does. I'm not sure how it relates to a specific macro lense for a slr. There's certain settings that the macro setting works better with. Honestly, I'm not familiar enough with the camera yet to give advice. There is a lot to learn if you've never had these options before but I like that it gives more options. HTH
