Which one would be best for a 240g

I have heard nothing but good stuff abought the Tunze so i thank i would like to get one or two of them for my new tank. The tank is a 240g it is 8 X 24 X 24 and needs more current in it. The tank has clams, sps, lsp and soft corals as well.
I was thinking it would be best to have one on each end of the tank but i have not seen these things in person so i dont know which one would be best for my tank. I dont want to blow my stuff out of the water but would like plenty of movement in the tank. i would like that controller thing as well. I dont know if it comes with it or not .
1) Do i need one or two of these and which one ?
2) What size and where would put them ?
3) Does it come with the mounting stuff ?
4) Who has this stuff at the best price ?

Thanks for any and all help you might give.

Bump, also find out which magnet to get. I think you will really like them rather than the brackets.

You will need 2 6100 and 1 7095. You want to place them on the ends or the back corners, this will depend on rock structure and corals but is largely trial and error. It does come with mounting hardware for standard glass tanks with no perimeter bracing, if you have something outside of this you will need an accessory. No one will have them in stock, expect an 8-10 week backorder, because demand far excedes supply most places charge MSRP, I would expect to pay around $800 for this set.

rvitko,

why 2 - 6100s instead of 2 - 6200s. I am not questioning your advice just trying to learn the differences between your models. I have a ten-year old 285 gallon DAS tank with a small overflow at one end and am trying to determine which Tunze's to order for it. I believe that it's dimensions are 96" x 30" tall x 24" wide. Do you recommend 2 - 6100s as well?

what about the wavemaker? WIth one small overflow at the end, I am concerned that the wave will cause the overflow to make lots of noise as it starves then floods then starves, etc.

Thanks
George

The 6100 and 6200 both cover the same distance- about 7ft, the 6200 just has a wider flow pattern of 30" for a wide SPS tank go with the 6200, otherwise it is better to use the 6100 to have some slow flow areas for LPS and lower flow corals.

HI Vitko

What is the diffrence on the 6000 & the 6100. I have read somthing abought turning a 6000 into a 6100 If it was you with a 8 x 2 x 2 tank which way would you go ?

Bump

They are the same exceppt the 6000 has an 11V transformer and the 6100 is a 19V transformer, you can upgrade or downgrade just by changing the transformer. The flow pattern of the 6000 is 4 by 2 ft, the 6100 is 6-7 by 2ft.

As for which I would choose, for SPS the 6100 is the correct choice. If you will keep a lot of LPS and softies the 6100 may be better.

Well, go this way, buy the 6000's and see what you think if you upgrade them you will only be out another $4 or so per pump for shipping costs on the upgraded transformers.

So, there is no difference in velocity within the cone of flow (given a large enough tank)? And how do the flow patterns compare with the 6080?

It is a greater reach than the 6080 which has about a 5ft reach. The 6100 and 6080 have the same spread of flow, I can't say I have found the 6200 to have any greater velocity but I haven't done too much comparison, I only have seen one in use, I don't have any large reef tanks.

hi roger, just got 2 6000's with a 7095 multicontroller ... love it so far!! am very happy to hear that the 6000's can be ugraded to 6100's simply by changing the transformer!
Am I reading this right? or is there something i'm missing ...
where can I buy a transformer upgrade?

No, that is all you need to do, Premium Aquatics usually has the transformers in stock. Keep in mind you will double the flow, it is not a minor increase.

understood! thanks for the quick response. i was really asking for future "upgradeability" (don't think that's a word). someday, i will move from my current 4' long 75G to an 6 or 8' foot long tank and absolutely love the idea of just upgrading these two 6000s and adding 2 more 6100s than having to buy 4 all new 6100s. penny saved and all, you know! Thanks again Roger ...

OK Roger, my turn I guess. I am setting up a 215 reef ready 6'long x 2'wide x 29"tall with a 3-4" sand bed. Will be keeping lps, sps, softies, and clams. From what I read you don't think having two 6100's, one at each end of the tank will be too much for the softies and clams, or would the 6000's be better to be safe? Does the 7095 controller allow you to adjust max flow rates? What about the deco rock holder, does it require any other type of holder, or does it just hold the 6100 down with its own weight? If you put the deco rock holders into your rock structure as opposed to magnets on the glass do you risk more stuff getting sucked up into them? How often do you have to clean them? The new 7095 comes with one moonlight. Is it enough light for that size tank and can you get additional moonlights to add-on? Is the light white or blue? I am going to order the 7095 this week to get that ball rolling but still trying to figure out which pump to get. Thanks a BUNCH for you time and help on this and I look forward to using your products.

I think given your tank depth the 6100's are th way to go and yes you can turn down the top end speed. The only problem with the Stream rocks is the pump can suck in sand, it has to be on top of live rock. No other holder is required or even usable with the Stream rocks. The Stream rock holds the pump because the rock has a PVC coupling in the front and the pump face is the exact size of the coupling. The LED is white and one is enough for a moonlight, it will be very dim but so is the moon. The pumps need to be cleaned every 3- 6 months.

What abot on a tank 72x36x25tall 1-2" sand bed and a mix of lps sps sofies and clams...while we are on the subject:D

Probably 2 6100 unless it is heavy on the SPS then 2 6200. It wouldn't hurt to add a wavebox to wither configuration to help with dead spots.
