Which One Would Be Better Overflow Box Or Hang-On Back

Having Reef Ready tank that is drilled with an internal overflow box is your best option.

A overflow box is easy to install no drilling just a sump/refugium in the tank stand and a return pump back up to the tank.

This is a very valid option for you. You might have to do a few saltwater mouth gargles from the airline tubing but once you get it tweaked its works just as well as a drilled.

Eheim makes a very nice wet/dry canister filter. I had one running on a 29 gallon so it was a bit overkill. Never had any issues with it, and it has built in features so you wont end up with water everywhere.

here is info on 2227, there is also a bigger 2229
Pump output approx l/h - 1050

Us (Imp) GHP - 277 (231)

Filter circulation approx l/h - 550

Aquarium Size approx ltr - 350

Position of filter between bottom of filter to water level - 100-120 cm

Filter Volume ltr - 4.9

Watts - 25W

Dimensions

Height - 13.1inch

Length - 8.3 inch

Depth - 11.8 inch

Is the back glass tempered??
Most companys only temper the bottom of the tank.

If the back glass is not tempered then you can drill the back glass and retrofit a internal overflow box in the tank.

You could also drill the back glass and use external type durso drain pipes with a coast to coast style over flow in the DT.

You could use the 125 as a sump/fuge and get a Big Reef Ready tank.

Where is a good place to get a overflow box such as a eshopps? I see prices of close to 100 for a simple box with a u tube, seems ridiculous, unless I'm just looking at the wrong places. I had 2 but one broke [tanks not setup], just I guess was old and broke, and while I could fix it, i dont trust fixing it, as if it didn't hold i'd have big floods.

Thanks,

Jeff

+2 ......RR boxes are the best bet for most stability from floods later.....before anyone gets mad at me yes a HOB overflow if tweaked correctly can work very well....but if you can drill your tank now with nothing in it then do it.....most tanks dont temper the back so you can drill it there then make a durso pipe....very quiet.....IME

atrox - you can avoid the saltwater gargling with saran wrap. Completely submerge your U-tube and seal both ends with saran wrap. You want the saran wrap pieces to be large enough to reach once the tube is in place. Place the tube in the overflow such that both ends are submerged. Hold the tube in place and pull away the saran wrap. done. In the time it took to type it I could have done it. [OK, I'm not the fasted typist]. Can't remember who here on RC taught me that years ago, but I've been grateful ever since to not mess with airlines, pliers and desperately turning off the pump when the siphon failed. The saran wrap method is as close to fool proof as no matter.

By the way, the box has never resulted in a flood. The skimmer is another matter...
