Ok I have a chance to get a new tank:) I have two sizes at a good price to choose from. So would you get the 150 or 220 and why? thanks

220. 180 is the minimum recommended size for several tangs I'm interested in. Plus, my buddy has a 220 and it is just proportioned nicely, IMO.

This is the 180+ gallon forum. Since you have already posted here you have no choice now but to get the 220. ;)

I would shoot for the smaller tank. Less cost for salt, gfo, carbon, etc. I think those things get more expensive than people realize. I have a 150 and rarely do I sit back and with it were bigger. When I do have those thoughts, all I have to do is add up all the cost of my equipment and energy bill and then I sort of wish I had a smaller tank, lol

Dave.m I guess you're right my decision has been made for me lol :) well I have about 3 weeks to decide and if its still available I'm going with the 220 if not maybe the 150 will be there

Is it going to be very costly per month in regular maintenance? I know the initial startup is pricey that's why I'm going slow:)

Bigger is always better, less changes in water chemistry that can affect fish and inverts. Plus you will have more room for aquascaping and fish to swim and be happy

Look at the space it will go in and let that guide you. I went with a 120 because the footprint of a 180, while it would physically fit, would have overpowered the space. I could have stepped up to a 180 for almost the same cost, but it wouldn't look "right".

I think the space will be fine the only concern I have is it will be in a room with windows none will be shining directly into the tank will this be a problem

No, the windows are not a problem. People used to have fits about the extra light from windows causing algae blooms, but that was before we learned about the need to reduce nutrient levels (nitrates, phosphates) to natural reef levels. Now some people are actually installing skylights to increase the amount of natural light to their tanks.

It looks great what kind of lighting do you have I was thinking about getting a ati 8 bulb 60" I can't wait to get it and get started

What are your livestock plans? If you have an idea that can help you to make a decision, and the 220 will give you more options.

Honestly I don't really know I haven't ever dealt with corals so I will start off slow with basics but I know if I do that I will eventually want the harder ones as well and I want the tangs I think they are beautiful
