YOU have been ignored!
Sharing my experience with the Hawkins in QT I thought it would be good to have a thread of SPS that do not respond well to dipping. Please post what your were using to dip the coral. Either Coral RX, Revive, TMPCC or Iodine etc..
I think I am going to wait until I'm close to done adding corals (yeah right..) to my new tank and then get the "hard to QT corals" and go easy on them, maybe half strength dips but spend 2x as long in QT. I will probably nuke the heck out of my QT with no corals with Levamisol etc before to clear out the QT or just leave with no SPS for a while before hand.
I guess I should add a little about my QT system. I have a 20H tank with an Aquamedic 250HQI w/14K Pheonix bulb about 20" above the water. It does have a small sump with a heater and a fan. I have two powerheads in there for circulation and a piece of LR about 10lbs I'd say. I do have a tang in there to help keep algae under control. Total water volume is about 35gal I'd say. When I do my weekly water changes I drain 10 gallons out of the main tank and put in the QT. I do not add any supplements other than weak kalkwasser in the top off. I don't have a skimmer on this tank. I do have a Neptune controller from my old display that I slapped on there since I had it laying around but I don't think you need anything that sophisticated. Otherwise I would just use timers.
IME Torts, Hawkins and Plana's have not responded well at all to dipping. I used to use TMPCC exclusively but I think Revive is not near as harsh. Coral RX I think is very close to Revive.
So which corals have you had problems with in QT? How long did it last in QT and what were you using to dip at what concentration?
Thanks,
Chris
