Which substrate?

Have a 48x24x20 that I'm setting up. Using two MP40's that I want to be able to use at 100% without sand blowing everywhere.

Was gonna use the Special Grade sand, but I've been reading the Tropic Eden substrate is much nicer.

Not sure if I should do the reeflakes or miniflakes, or 2:1 ratio reeflakes/miniflakes.

Any opinions?

With careful placement of your mp40's you should be able to use any sand you want without a sandstorm.
Unfortunately I've always had sand shifting problems in the past using sugar sized sand, and that was with maxi-jets. I don't think it's possible to run mp40 vortechs on this size tank at 100% without a coarser grade sand.

If you mix the reeflakes and the miniflakes I assume it will be like a nut container and the miniflakes will go to the bottom while the larger reeflakes will stay on top. depends if you like this effect or not. I am going to go with the reeflakes and I like the grain to be a bit larger but not too large. so it's a perfect size for me.

It certainly is possible. My dimensions are very similar and I had zero issues. It has a lot to do with rockwork IMO.

Yeah I may just go with the reeflakes.

Tank will be full blown SPS. Plan on doing more of a minimalist aquascape....probably go for an unsymmetrical two island type look.

I have a 2:1 of mini to reeflakes. My tank is 4'x3' and the 2 6105 Tunze is blowing part of sandbed around. If I were to do it again, I would go all reeflakes.

I'm wondering the same thing here. I'm setting up a mixed reef 48x24x24 (120g) and have 3 MP40wES units. What is the perfect substrate for this?
