im going to have some discosoma and rhodactis inchoata..

do they need to be fed? if this is the case, what kind of food should i have ready for them? about the only thing i have at home right now is brine shrimp eggs for hatching..

hope someone can help me

thank you very much

they might catch food from time to time but there is never a need to feed them on purpose. mine sometimes catch food when i feed the fish but mostly they just sit there, catching rays. thats all the food they really need.

As said, they are mainly photosynthetic. Feeding is optional, but by no means ever really "necessary." Mine just catch any small mysis chunks that land on them after I feed my fish.
If you really want to get into feeding them, you can target feed them zooplankton from time to time (phytoplankton works as well)

Does target feeding increase their growth rates? Or am I better off focusing on getting the right amount of light on them.

I have tryed target feeding for awhile but it is more of a hassle then anything. I have alot of Ricordea and I try to target feed with some reef chili which is a great product by the way. The feeding made the rics grow a little faster but the tank needed to be maintenanced more frequently because of the excess amount of food being put in. If you really want to insure there health you could add a fluidized bed filter with sand in to your system i know a couple peoplle who use this method and it seems promising.
