I think a better question "Is why would you want a canister filter for a marine aquarium?" More trouble than they're worth IMO.

Ive found the Fluvals more dependable (and easier)....just my 2 cents.

Canister filters really don't need to be used in the marine hobby. You will be better off with good skimming, and a good amount of live rock. Canister filters need cleaned often and will always trap detritus.

Get it and then replace the bio balls with LR rubble. Or just ask them to keep the bio-balls and give you a discount.
