White Emerald Crab

Every Emerald Crab I have ever owned has slowly (over the course of 2 months), turnes white and dies. I also cannot seem to keep cleaner shrimp longer than four months. Fish & corals do great. Any ideas?

What's you levels at? How long with the tank? Every tank is differant and I have heard of tanks being set up exactly the same way having differant issues: some keep shrimp, some don't, some algea grows like weeds, some you can't get to grow if you try.

Tank has been up five years. All levels are in range, here are a few stand outs though: PH is 7.8, I can never get it higher than 8.0. Iodate just read zero. Calcium is high at around 550. Temp is high at 83. Alk, salinity, nitrate, nirtite, ammonia are all good.

I'm no expert, but do have several Emerals with no problems. I supliment Potassum Iodide and strontium Cloride(sp) maybe that helps.

My PH stays at 8.2, Temp at 81-83, Ammo & nitrite at 0, Nitrate0.5 Alk 2.85dkh, Calcium 430, Magnesium 1300, Sal 1.026. Ive lost 3 of 6 in the course of 4 months and they all turned white. I have no idea what causes this. My calc, alk, and mag had all been low till about 3 weeks ago so maybe that might have done it. I have no bubble algae left so I dont need 6 anyway

Specific gravity, i don't know.......

Corals do grow like crazy.

Thanks for the link Waterbury Guy to thread.

They need the salt level of the tank.
