White film at surface

I've read up on this... And most people say it's oil from your hands, etc. Is it harmful or just aesthetically looks bad? Over flow has a hard time keeping up with it, and I have a power head on each side of the tank pointed towards the surface in the direction of the over flow. Heavy surface agitation towards end of tank, less in the middle but middle still ripples. Looking for some insight..

To remove surface film, surface skimming is key. Overflow boxes will pull this away into a sump where filter socks, skimmer can remove it.

I dealt with this until I installed a skimmer. Water surface is crystal clear now which helps with light penetration and gas exchange. Multiple benefits. :)

You are likely to end up with hair algae or some explosion of nuisance algae soon if you don't get that cleared off the top of the tank. I put a powerhead at the surface to agitate the surface and push it to the overflow. That combined with good skimming will help clean that up. Had to rush off earlier but trying to get back to you. That's what my tank looked like in the beginning and once I switched to a quality in sump skimmer like Reef Octopus, that crap went away.

It's weird though I have surface agitation, decent skimmer, over flow... My over flow just isn't picking it up. I took a better look at it and my water level may be a hair too high.. So the surface isn't skimming properly (hard to explain but that's just how my tank was manufactured). Definitely don't need an algae bloom.. Gonna have to figure something out
