I have a lionfish that is experiencing what I think is white excrement. I guess I don't really notice his waste typically, but it is currently white. I can tell because it gets stuck in my overflow box sponge filter. At first I was like "What the hell is this!?" but I imagine it can only be solid waste. It looks a bit like a string of tiny sausages. He hasn't been wanting to eat too much lately, but his diet is typically fish or shrimp, since he doesn't really like hydrated freeze dried shrimp much. I have been getting the water quality better lately, and because he had some clouding of his eye, I treated with copper as per the LFS thinking it might have been ich. That was over a month ago. I recall seeing that poop issue back then too, so perhaps it is unrelated to the alleged ich, or is an ich recurrence. No, I don't see any ich spores.
To complicate matters a bit, I was able to capture this very zoomed in pic of these little creatures. One person called them "hydroids," one called them little starfish type detritivores, and one person couldn't place them but recommended a copper treatment, which I did for a few days until I began to doubt the veracity of that diagnosis. They are about as small as a period on the keyboard; you can't see the little tentacle things with the naked eye. They aren't attached to the fish that I can see, and once I cleaned them off the glass, seem to have moved on to the sand or committed suicide or something.
Any questions or theories?
