i noticed today that one of the croceas in my store has white pox does anyone know of any effective treatment methods or is it a waiting game??
THANX

i dont have a cam handy, but i know what white pox is and have seen it before, so i am positive its WP. so i ask again anyone ever tried/heard of any treatment methods???
i used to own Dan Knops book but that was years ago, i cant remember if it had anything on treatments for WP

ive never hear of "white pox" in clams. Knops book describes something he called "white spot".

i dont know how much help anyone can be with out knowing a little more about whats going on with the clam, a photo of the clam, and basic info about the tank, water parameters, ect....

I have a maxima that's had a patch of white tissue that looks a bit like powdery mildew on a rosebush...in between two syphon holes. It's that this spot for 7 months and yesterday there was a small round hole in the center of it, and my cleaner goby is "worrying" at it.

Is that the "white spot" that you're talking about? I'm also looking for a treatment. I once tried an iodine SW dip but it had no effect.

White spot disease is a parasitic infection that spreads rapidly to other clams, so quarantine the infected clam if other clams are present. Also, this disease has a mortality rate of 90%, although successful treatment has been observed with use of ribosomal inhibitors such as chloramphenicol, but be sure you do not treat your tank with the antibiotic!

Also, white spot disease is easily identified by small to medium sized white "spots" that are sometimes raised. If a whole area is whitish then more likely it's bleaching in one area, but if there are spots all over it you may have WSD.

Also, iodine dips will only work for extradermal diseases, not intracellular, intradermal, or intravascular ones. The iodine kills upon contact; however, if the disease is internalized in the organisms you are trying to save, you will only be damaging that organisms tissues, and clams are very sensitive.

it has spread to other clams in the system, the params. are textbook, they are kept under 400w radiums.
sorry i dont have access to a cam that would even be worth taking pictures with. i know its not bleaching i have quite a bit of knowlege of tridacnids but not of the WSD,
does anyone know of any treatment methods?
help would be appreciated
