"White" red bug infestation??

I noticed one of my frogspawns not extending and receeding at the base. Upon close inspection it seems to be infested with very, very tiny white bugs. They would remind you of tiny mites and crawl around pretty fast. They are sucking the life out of the frogspawn. No they are not tiny pods or any other normal tank fauna. I am only seeing them on the bases of my frogspawns but the other 3 colonies are not as affected yet. My SPS ( I lost a few SPS fraggs from a temp spike recently), other LPS, clams and softies are all fine.

I did a dip last night with the only thing I had on hand, Seachems coral disinfectant which is basically a iodine dip at 2x concentration for 10 mins. I got about 20 of those little stars that are in debate over being bad, good or indifferent but the water was saturated witht he tint white bugs. It looked like a dust storm, they are that tiny. I noticed when I put the coral back in the tank it had only killed about 85% of them. Some were still scurrying about like noting ever happened.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of bug and what can be done to erradicate it? I am hopping for a compleat tank treatment like interceptor because pulling every coral from a 280 for dipps is not very fun sounding :( A pic would almost be impossiable with my camera through very thick glass. My micro isn't the best and they are so small and white. Thanks in advance for any help!!

I had a heck of a battle with the same thing - and an even harder time finding information on it. I am not sure what they are, but here is what I discovered:

-Dipping only kills some, not all - and the population will eventually rebound in due time.

- The cure I discovered was a sixline wrasse. Granted, it is proabably only controlling the colony rather than eradicating it, but I haven't seen any since I purchased this fish.

I hope this helps you out some. I did about 4 freshwater dips over time before I came to this conclusion.

Good luck.

Oh no, not something else to deal with. I just discovered black bugs and now white bugs along with red bug and flatworms and acro eating flatworms and on and on...

If you have what I think I had. Which was this white ring around my LPS corals of Lords, Brains, Echinos that would just eat the tissue away. I tried everything possible and as a last resort I dropped some interceptor in and I gotta say the white rings have disappeared. Its only been 4 days but things are looking alot better. Dips didnt help. I would do it. I wish I had sooner. Lost $$$$$ in rare echinos and lords. Look at some of my other posts of my ordeal
