White Spot Medicine recommendation?

My Blue tang got some white spots day after I started to dose 2 parts. I am not sure if it was related. Nothing else was changed, I don't know when did I introduce the parasites to my tank. Anyway, anyone can recommend a med I can use? I am planning to treat it in my 9 gal. biocube.

Thanks.

Are you referring to Ich, If so the best treatment is copper based. That being said if you treat in a tank you can never use that tank again as a reef type tank. The best solution is to set up a Quarantine tank and treat in that.

Bill is correct that copper is best to treat and that you cannot do it in your reef tank however there are less effective meds you can use in your reef tank. Fish stress can worsen the effects of the parasite and make the fish less able to fight off the parasite. Sometimes if catching the infected bugger becomes a ordeal to get him into the QT and then being in a tight QT is too stressful, he may succumb to the infection. When I had it on my blue tang I tried all "holistic" attempts first knowing that if I had to I could go to QT and Copper. none of them were as effective as copper, but overall I think the combination helped the fish heal thy self. some of these less effective options include hyposalinity, feeding garlic (I made garlic juice in a blender with garlic cloves and selcon and soaked my dehydrated mysis in it and fed it), adjusting tank temp, reducing any stressors, (i.e. fish that they do not get along with, reduced lighting, improving water quality), and adding a "slime coat" additive. My blue tang was able to fight it off eventually. I also used a med called kick-ick which killed my water quality and I am not too sure how much it helped but it was in a tank with just a few cheap corals so I was not too worried about the xenia and GSP at the time. Sorry to hear about your sick fish! Check the RC Archives too there is TONS of info on this parasite from biologists who really know what they are talking about! Its not a new problem!

I think there is a med that you can get if you have a hook up from a vet that treats well too but i dont remember what it is.

IMO Don't waste your money on Kick Ich I tried it and it was pretty much useless, Same as the Herbtana a Gross waste of Money.
Garlic has worked for me in the past but there are no guarantees that alone will cure the fish. Use a clear container to catch the fish (Less Stress) then treat with a copper based med for several weeks while also lowering the Salinity to help kill the Ich. By placing a small cup for the fish to hide in and feel safe you can reduce the stress involved in the treatment. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks guys, I picked up a copper based med from critter yesterday, then I tried to catch the blue tang when I got home yesterday, but I think he KNEW! lol. got to figure out a way to get him out on the weekend.

I used Copper Safe in my 55 in the past, it's been a reef tank for years without issues. It has been setup as a reef for about 5 years. But not all copper medication are like that. Just remember copper meds are very harsh on Tangs if you do your research. I suggest using Garlic food treatment or hypo (depending on condition of the fish) over copper. Copper does work though, but you have to be real careful in treating with copper. Good Luck!
